What to Look out For Before Buying a Computer?

As funny as this may sound so many people think that a computer is very powerful once it looks big.

The fact is a computing device can be as small as our smartphone yet have sophisticated functionalities.

what should you look out for in a computer!? Well don’t worry let me guide you with some hints.

In this article I will show you differences between A Home Computer or PC, A Gaming Computer and A Virtualization Computer.

How to Choose the Right Computer?

Depends on what your plan is:

1. Just a home PC
2. Is it for gaming
3. Is it for Virtualization

Once you can answer this questions, you are half way done. If you are looking for a computer as just every day device, then go for at least a good CPU and RAM (Random Access Memory) size because the processing speed of your computer depends on this two components.

Remember your CPU, Central Processing Unit is the brain of the computer just like the brains in humans.

Secondly you should go for “enough” space. Please don’t confuse RAM for storage space. Your computer space is the hard drive size, so go for as much as you know you need.

For everyday computer, 4 GB RAM and 500 GB HDD (Hard Disk Drive) should do.

Look at the suggested specifications below:

Processor (CPU): Intel Core i5 (sixth generation, or newer) or equivalent

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional x64

Memory: 4 GB RAM

Storage: 500 GB internal storage drive

Monitor Size: 14″ LCD monitor, resolution of 1600 x 900; This actually depends on the size you want

Network Adapter: 802.11ac wireless

Processing Speed: 2.4 GHz

Internal or external Webcam, carrying bag, external hard drive for storage backups.

Gaming Vs Virtualization Computer

Now assuming you were looking for a gaming computer, a gaming computer will need lots of resources especially power and Graphic cards.

On the other hand Virtualization in computing networking is the process of running multiple virtual machines on a single physical system or machine (computer).

This is usually used by big corporations to control more servers from one machine.

Here two or more virtual machines are installed in a physical computer. What you need to know here is that a virtualization machine will need more RAM.

If you were writing  CompTIA 220-1001 exam, you will find this information here very useful.

Now I want you to look at the image below and look and the left top menu of this screenshot. Note this screenshot is taken from a real time simulation.

I want you to look at the picture and tell me what you think should fill the slot for the configuration requirements for the gaming computer Vs Virtualization:

Remember I told you a gaming computer will need more power compare to a virtualization.

So here I will pick 1000W PSW (Power Supply), 12GB RAM and since gaming need more power supply then means that it will require a lot of cooling, therefore I will pick liquid cooling over just the inbuilt CPU Fan.

And very importantly the graphic card. If your gaming computer don’t have a fast Graphic card, then be assured that your gaming experience will not be a good one. Here go for the SLI Graphic Card.

See the second screenshot below:

The screenshot below shows a skeletal representation of what you need if you were to build a gaming computer. Going in depth will be telling you type of Graphic card to get from the market, RAM, etc but I believe with this you should have a good head start about what you want.
